8/28 Men’s Varsity Soccer Game vs. Research Triangle Raptors
On Monday, August 28th, the Patriots Varsity Men’s Soccer Team encountered the
Research Triangle Raptors in a home rematch of their battle on the 18th. The Patriots were
undefeated going into this game with 24 goals for and 0 goals against, and the Raptors were 3-1
with their only loss coming to the Patriots. The Raptors’ goalie was stellar throughout the first
half, racking up 8 saves and suppressing the Patriots attack. However, the Patriots were able to
get one to fall at 7:00 remaining in the first when Jake Steinberg let a header scream past the
goalie’s head and across the goal line. The Patriots took a 1-0 advantage into the second half,
where both teams had great goalie play and no goals were scored for the first 18 minutes of the
half. Then Tyler ignited a scoring run with a strike off an assist from Zach Hanson with 21:46
left in the half. They followed this goal with goals from Luis Peters (13:29 remaining) and Tim
Sutton (7:21 remaining), leading to a final score of 4-0. This preserved the Patriots’ 1st place
standing in the conference and extended their shutout streak to 4 games. It also increases their
goal differential to 28-0, giving them an average of 7 goals scored per game. The Patriots are
showing that they have the talent and drive they need to go on another deep playoff run like the
past two years.
