Participation in interscholastic athletics at Franklin Academy High School is a privilege that goes hand in hand with academic diligence and character. All student-athletes must satisfy both North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) guidelines and Franklin Academy institutional standards.
Franklin Academy utilizes DragonFly MAX for all athletic paperwork, emergency contact forms, and electronic sign-offs. Both student and parent/guardian must complete all required modules and consent forms prior to the first day of tryouts.
Student-athletes must have a current, valid NCHSAA Pre-Participation Physical Examination on file in DragonFly MAX. Physicals are valid for 395 days from the date of examination. A physical must be signed by a licensed physician (MD/DO), nurse practitioner, or physician assistant.
To be eligible for athletic participation in any semester, high school students must pass at least 3 out of 4 block courses (or 70% of maximum course load) during the preceding semester, and must be promoted to the next grade level according to school policy.
Under NCHSAA guidelines, a student-athlete must have been in attendance for at least 85% of the total number of school days in the previous semester (no more than 13 absences in a 90-day semester).
The Gfeller-Waller Concussion Awareness Act requires annual education and signed forms by student-athletes and parents. Athletes participating in collision/contact sports must also undergo baseline ImPACT cognitive testing with the Franklin Academy Certified Athletic Trainer.
All student-athletes must show proof of active primary family medical insurance or purchase the optional NCHSAA student accident supplemental policy before taking the field.
